It was an incredible year filled with beautiful brides, celebrities and commercial/corporate shoots that earned us some awards and a spot in the Boston Wedding Group!
The Boston Wedding Group (BWG) is a vetted organization made up of Boston’s best wedding professionals and they chose us to be one of the three makeup artists in their group!
We’ve truly enjoyed getting to know the BWG members and networking with the best in Boston weddings.
In addition to joining this spectacular organization, we also won a couple of industry awards!
We received the 2018 Couples’ Choice Award from WeddingWire and were named Boston’s Best Makeup Artist by Boston Magazine!
We even attended the Best of Boston Weddings Award Ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton in Boston!
The industry recognition that we’ve received this year has been unbelievable. However, we know it wouldn’t be possible without our incredible clients.
That’s why, it’s the moments we’ve shared with all of them that matter most.
The year was full of fun shoots with incredible people like Cynthia Nyongesa…
and Shannon Mulaire from NBC 10 Boston.
We had the pleasure of working with multiple celebrities like the casts of Super Troopers 2…
and Crazy Rich Asians.
We had so much fun with Susanna Fogel, the writer and director of The Spy Who Dumped Me…
and our dear friend, Mary Steenburgen, who recently stared in Book Club.
Danielle Russell from Measure of a Man even included us in her own social media post!
Danielle was absolutely thrilled with how we styled her hair and said that no one’s ever made her hair look so good. THAT is what we live for!
We’re so grateful to do what we love while making others look and feel their best. We’re thrilled with all we’ve accomplished in 2018 and look forward to another wonderful year!
How Is Bridal Makeup Different From A Corporate Or Commercial Look?
Bridal makeup is fun, personal and DIFFERENT.
It’s true! Everything from the way we approach the job to the makeup itself is different when working on a wedding.
THE APPROACH
When working with a bride, all that matters is what she likes/dislikes. Some brides like a dramatic look while others don’t like much makeup at all. So, we take the time to understand each bride’s personal style and vision during her trial. We also take into consideration the cut, style and color of her dress. This helps us to ensure the makeup style flows with her entire look.
As you can imagine our approach is extremely different when working with a commercial or corporate client. Instead of talking to the talent in our chair, we go straight to the company that hired us to understand the image / message they’d like us to propel.
THE MAKEUP
The makeup we use during our commercial and/or corporate photoshoots creates a more natural look and has a flat/matt finish and texture to it.
While bridal makeup is often more colorful, playful and glamorous.
We love working with brides and we love to give them the extra shimmer and highlight that speaks to the celebration at hand! After all, it’s one of the most important days in a bride’s life and we want to make sure she looks GREAT!
Five Steps To Wedding Day Hair & Makeup Prep
It’s your wedding day! We want you to have the most incredible morning with your closest girls. So, follow these 5 simple steps and get ready to be pampered!
1. WASH YOUR HAIR
We recommend you shampoo the night before your wedding. But, if your hair gets frizzy overnight, then washing the morning of works well too! Make sure your hair is completely dry before your appointment.
2. KEEP YOUR FRIZZ UNDER CONTROL
If you have curly hair and you want to keep that natural texture all day long then add in your favorite frizz control product and allow time for your hair to completely dry before your appointment.
3. DRY YOUR HAIR
If you’re getting an updo then blow out your hair after washing or give your hair enough time to completely dry if air drying before your appointment. Your hair should only be damp if you've requested a blowout instead (blowout request done in advance)!
4. CLEAN YOUR FACE
Wash and gently exfoliate your face and lips, pat dry and lightly moisturize with the same moisturizer you normally use!
5. KICK BACK, RELAX AND ENJOY YOUR DAY
We are going to make you shine!
Makeup That Looks Great In Photos AND In Person
There’s a fine line between making someone look good in person and making them look good on film. However, a great makeup artist will be able to balance the two!
It all starts with the foundation! Foundation is an important product to use when appearing on film or camera. It evens out your skin tone, smooths your over all texture and covers up any flaws or blemishes that you may have.
A full application of foundation looks great in photos and film but if you’re someone who doesn’t wear makeup often then you may think it looks a bit heavy or unnatural in person. If that’s the case, then we recommend a technique called Spotting Foundation.
Spotting Foundation means you only apply makeup to the parts of your face that are discolored or blemished. Then you blend the foundation into your natural skin tone so your face looks even. This technique will leave you feeling like yourself when you look in the mirror AND it'll make you look balanced, fresh and clean when you appear on camera.
Once the foundation is in place we’d add some soft contouring and highlighting!
The camera loves structure and without it your face will look flat behind the lens. So, we recommend some SOFT contouring and highlighting. It won’t be very noticeable in person but it will enhance your natural bone structure and make you camera ready!
Finally, it’s time for the eyes!
When it comes to your eyes we recommend keeping everything really close to your eyeline. We love using natural tones on the upper and lower lid while keeping the deeper tones in a tight line along the lash line. Then we smudge it out to create a look that will make your eyes pop on camera while remaining soft and subtle in person.
2017: A Year In Review
From weddings to celebrity photo shoots, 2017 was a year to remember!
Christie Strong was just one of the countless brides we dolled up before they walked down the aisle.
We also made Katie Nolan shine at the Patriots Super Bowl Ring Ceremony back in June.
When we weren’t getting people ready for major events, we were behind the scenes at photo shoots and promotional tours.
This gorgeous gal was part of a corporate shoot we did for Breckinridge Capital Advisors back in October. We got everyone ready so Douglas Levy Photography could capture the perfect photos.
We also worked with Doug on a commercial shoot for Yogibo’s 2017 campaign.
The year was filled with commercial gigs, including a job with the one and only Rob Gronkowski.
Our artists have worked with multiple celebrities and high-profile clients. However, 2017 brought us the most impressive and inspirational person yet.
It was a pleasure to tour with Jeff Bauman and Jake Gyllenhaal while they promoted their movie, Stronger.
As we worked on Jeff’s makeup, we saw what an incredibly kind and strong person he truly is. It was an honor to make him look and feel his best.
In the end, THAT is our passion. We take great pride in making our clients look their best. We want everyone to feel confident in their appearance and we are grateful to continue this work throughout 2018!
