Here are the hard facts you should know:
Using sun protection helps prevent your skin from aging, keeping you looking younger, longer! It also prevents the development of skin discoloration such as sun spots. Most importantly, it significantly decreases your chances of getting skin cancer. Let's not forget getting sun burnt, nobody wants that either!
What is SPF?
An SPF of 15 will allow you to remain in the sun without damaging your skin 15 times longer than you would be able to if you were to wear no protection. The FDA recommends using an SPF of at least 15, and reapplying every 2 hours because the product can move around, sink into your pores, or wipe off. For most, an SPF of 15 to 30 should be all you need, unless you have incredibly sensitive skin. SPF isn't only found in skin products, but in lip balms, too. Don't forget your beautiful lips!
Chemical vs. Physical:
Chemical sunscreens act as an absorber to harmful rays, and prevent them from causing any damage to your skin, whereas physical sunblock provides just as much protection, but by reflecting the rays instead. Physical sunblock sits on the surface of the skin and can wipe away much easier making it less ideal for going swimming. Chemical sunscreens would be a better bet for a day at the beach! Which ever one you use really depends on your preference and the sunny situation you're in!
Some of my favorite sun protection products are Coppertone Sport SPF 15, Cerave Sunscreen SPF 50, Fresh Lip Color SPF 15, and Blistex Soft and Lush SPF 15!
And then there's always the option of hiding under the beautiful trees!
